2.5 Setting up Privacy Consent

What the consent feature does, when to enable it, and what the “Consent received” toggle means.

Written By Ravi Kiran

Helpie includes a built-in consent capture feature to help your team follow responsible data collection practices, in line with GDPR and similar privacy regulations.

How it works

The Privacy Consent toggle is always visible on every interaction in the app. Your booth team can switch it on to record that they obtained the lead's permission to collect their personal data.

When Privacy Consent is switched on, the lead can read the consent declaration on the user's phone screen and sign with their finger directly on the screen.

Making consent mandatory

In the console under Content → Consent From Prospect, you'll see a "Make Consent mandatory" toggle. When this is on, users cannot save an interaction without first obtaining consent. No consent = no Save.

Use this when your organisation requires documented consent for every interaction — for example, at international events where GDPR applies.

When the toggle is off, consent capture is optional. Your team can still use the Privacy Consent toggle on individual interactions, but they're not blocked from saving without it.

Editing the consent declaration

You can customise the text of the consent declaration that the lead reads and signs. Go to Configure → Consent From Prospect and click Edit. Write it in language appropriate to your industry and the regulations that apply to you.

What Privacy Consent does and doesn't mean

It means: A signature was captured on the user's screen before the interaction was saved. The lead had the opportunity to read the consent declaration and sign it.

It does not mean: Helpie has verified that the lead actually read the declaration, that the declaration covers all relevant data usage scenarios, or that the signature is genuinely the lead's. Helpie records the act of signing — it doesn't validate the signature owner, content or quality of consent.

What you write in the consent declaration matters. The declaration text is entirely in your control. Make sure it clearly states what data is being collected, how it will be used, and by whom. Consult your organisation's legal team to ensure your consent practices comply with applicable laws (GDPR, India's DPDP Act, or other regional regulations). When to enable it

How to enable it

Go to Configure → Consent From Prospect in the console.

Toggle Make Consent mandatory on or off as required.

When to enable it

Consider enabling consent capture if:

You attend international events where GDPR applies

Your company has a formal data protection policy

Your industry has specific privacy requirements

Using this feature is optional but recommended as a best practice.

How it appears in the console

In the console, each interaction shows the consent status. You can filter and export by consent status, which is useful for compliance reporting.
